What to Expect
Starting services can feel like a big step, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. At Coast & Compass, I take the time to understand your child and family before determining what type of support may be most appropriate.
There are two pathways for getting started, depending on whether you're seeking Behavior Consultation & Intervention or IEP Advocacy & Educational Support.
Pathway One: Behavior Consultation & Intervention
-
Connect & Initial Consultation
The first step is simply getting to know each other.
We'll talk about your child, your family's needs, your current concerns, and what you're hoping to work toward. This is an opportunity for me to learn more about your child and for you to ask questions about ABA and the Coast & Compass approach.
Together, we'll determine whether Behavior Intervention may be an appropriate fit and discuss what the next steps would look like.
-
Individualized Assessment
If you decide to move forward with private pay or insurance-based Behavior Consultation & Intervention, the next step is an individualized assessment.
I'll take a closer look at your child's strengths, current skills, areas of need, routines, and the priorities that are most meaningful to your family.
-
Individualized Treatment Plan
Using the information gathered through the assessment and our conversations, I'll develop an individualized treatment plan based on your child's unique needs and your family's priorities.
The goal isn't to create the longest possible list of goals. Instead, we'll focus on the skills that can make the greatest difference in your child's everyday life.
-
Begin Services
Once the treatment plan and any necessary insurance authorization are in place, services begin.
Depending on your child's needs and treatment plan, Behavior Consultation & Intervention may include direct BCBA intervention, caregiver and parent training, or a combination of services.
-
Ongoing Collaboration & Support
Your child's needs can change over time, and their treatment should change with them.
I'll monitor progress, make adjustments when appropriate, and continue working closely with you to ensure that services remain meaningful, individualized, and connected to your child's everyday life.
Pathway Two: IEP Advocacy & Educational Support
-
Connect & Initial Consultation
We'll begin with a conversation about your child's educational experience and what you're hoping to better understand or address.
You can tell me about your child's current school situation, concerns you have, upcoming meetings, or anything else you'd like support navigating.
Together, we'll determine what type of educational support would be most helpful.
-
Review & Understand
Depending on your needs, I may review your child's IEP, evaluations, progress reports, or other educational documentation.
We'll identify the areas that deserve the most attention and make sure you have a clear understanding of what is currently being proposed or provided.
-
Identify Priorities & Prepare
I'll help you organize your concerns, questions, and priorities so you feel prepared to participate in the IEP process.
This may include preparing for an upcoming meeting, reviewing proposed goals or accommodations, or discussing your child's behavioral, communication, social, or independence needs within the school environment.
-
Advocacy & Support
Depending on the level of support you're seeking, I can provide guidance before and throughout the IEP process.
Some families may need support with one specific meeting or document review, while others may benefit from ongoing consultation. We'll tailor the level of support to what your family actually needs.
Two Pathways. One Individualized Approach.
Whether you're looking for Behavior Intervention or support navigating your child's education, the process begins with the same thing: a conversation.
You don't need to know exactly what service you need before reaching out. I'll take the time to understand your family's situation and help you determine what type of support may be the best fit.
